Picture Puzzle Co.

A very interesting, early 20th century brand of wooden jigsaw puzzles, showing a London address of 96,a Stanhope Street, Euston Road, N.W.

Thought to be of c1915-20 manufacture, these puzzles are clearly very closely related to other brands already featured on the Jigasaurus, most notably those of fellow London brands, the Jig Saw Puzzle Co. and W.G. Evans and Sons, of Williams Mews, also in Stanhope Street!

I acquired three of these small 27-28 piece puzzles in my very earliest collecting days, some thirty years or more past. Only recently have I taken time to research and photograph them and compare them with other similar puzzles already on the Jigasaurus.

My instincts tell me that Raphael Tuck & Sons were the likely manufacture of these and their above referenced "Evans" and "Jig Saw Puzzle Co." likenesses. This comes from the use of "Oilette" branded artwork used on all three of my first example, along with the cutting style similarity with the Tuck's "Zag-Zaw" branded puzzle Britannia, previously referred to in the W.G. Evans album.
